SPEAKER_01:my dad dropped the bomb during our engagement dinner what do i do now that's we've got no clue where these stories are headed So use your imagination and write along with us on So, What's the Title?
SPEAKER_00:Okay, all right. Hold on a second.
SPEAKER_01:I have nerves. I have nerves. I have anxiety thinking about this title.
SPEAKER_00:During the engagement dinner, like, this is a very important part of the whole entire thing, right? Yeah. Okay, do you remember our engagement dinner? Wait, first of all, our engagement dinner? No.
SPEAKER_01:No
SPEAKER_00:way. We didn't have an engagement
SPEAKER_01:dinner. Well, you proposed, right? I proposed, yeah. Which, that was such a highlight in my
SPEAKER_00:life. Yeah, it was a great moment. And
SPEAKER_01:then we had an engagement barbecue.
UNKNOWN:Yes.
SPEAKER_00:Our barbecue was lit.
SPEAKER_01:It was. And then we went to go find more food at some bar. Oh,
SPEAKER_00:yeah. That's right. We went with George and Rosa.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Angie was
SPEAKER_00:there. Angie was there. Nathan was there. Was Nathan there? Yeah, he was. Shelby was there. Shelby was there. Yeah. That's right. Yeah. Yeah. No, that was good. That was a really good. Yeah. I had a great time.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:But this guy here, he dropped the bomb.
SPEAKER_01:It says my dad dropped the bomb during our engagement dinner. What do I do now? What do I do now?
SPEAKER_00:During the engagement dinner. Oh, man. All right, hold on. Okay, hold on a second. So, while they were in the engagement dinner, this guy gets a phone call from her ex-boyfriend. The dad and the ex-boyfriend are still best friends.
SPEAKER_01:Oh,
SPEAKER_00:no. And he picks up the phone on speaker. Oh, no. Okay? He really didn't like this guy, though. Not at all. And he answers, hello, son. That's great. That's so bad. And then they just start having a full-blown conversation next to this new guy that his daughter's about to marry. Oh,
SPEAKER_01:my goodness. Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_00:That's cringing.
SPEAKER_01:Do you imagine that?
SPEAKER_00:Yes, I do imagine. All right. I imagine it
SPEAKER_01:all. Now, here's the thing. It says, my dad dropped the bomb during our engagement dinner. So we don't know if he proposed already or if he proposed at the dinner or he was going to propose, right? Yeah. We got to look at that, but we know it's called an engagement dinner. What if he proposed to her during dinner and the dad goes up to the ring and just says, this is all you got.
SPEAKER_00:Whoa. Yeah. This crap
SPEAKER_01:right here.
SPEAKER_00:Like this is what you're giving my daughter. And he
SPEAKER_01:flicks it away. And then he grabs his wife's hand and be like, this is, this is the ring I got her. Yeah. And you're going to show up to my daughter with this piece of crap.
SPEAKER_00:Wow. Wow. That's tough. That's, that's like, and hold on though. The guys in like the guys in one knee. He took out the ring. He's ready to propose. He could even take it out of the box. The dad took it out of the box and examined the ring in front of everybody and was like, this isn't good enough?
SPEAKER_01:Oh, my goodness. Yo, that's
SPEAKER_00:wild, bro. That's wild. Meanwhile, this guy is in grad school. He's trying to finish school. He's going to become a lawyer. He's doing his thing. You know what I mean? He's been working as a barista in the city, trying to just pay his bills.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, he's working
SPEAKER_00:so hard. Inflation is so high. He's taking all these courses that all these students are taking that you don't even need. You know what I mean? He's just trying to get through life. But he wants to marry the love of his life.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, I'm rooting for them.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. But the dad is like, hell no.
SPEAKER_01:The dad is not.
SPEAKER_00:You better come correct. Oh. Oh, that's cringing.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, my goodness. When people say they dropped the bomb, right? So maybe I'm thinking too into it, but just let me. Let me overthink for a moment. Go ahead. Go ahead. Yeah. So he dropped the bomb. Did he reveal a truth?
UNKNOWN:No.
SPEAKER_01:That wasn't, that wasn't revealed before. And he dropped the bomb during the engagement.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Okay. Hold on. So, so this guy during the, during the whole dinner goes like, you know what? You're going to get married. I just want to let you know that me and your mom have been miserable for the past 15 years. You guys want to get married. This is what it's going to turn into.
SPEAKER_01:And I'm not supporting this.
SPEAKER_00:I pay for this wedding.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, there's so many ways this could have gone wrong. So, so, so, so many ways. Yeah. Imagine if even before the kid even asked for her hand at the dinner, the guy is just squaring him up and down, just eyeing him. And he's like, I hope you're not thinking of proposing to my daughter
SPEAKER_00:tonight. Oh, damn.
SPEAKER_01:He's like, I hope you're not. You better return that ring. Don't even pull it out tonight. Do you imagine?
SPEAKER_00:Damn. That's a little wild.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, but... It could have happened.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I'm pretty sure it happens every day.
SPEAKER_01:Every
SPEAKER_00:day. There's a lot of overprotective dads out there.
SPEAKER_01:There really are. Yeah. There's a lot of overprotective moms, too.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, that's very true. Yes. Yes, there is. That is true. Oh, Lord. Oh,
SPEAKER_01:my God. And what else?
SPEAKER_00:You know what? When I asked your dad if I can marry you, it's so funny because... Okay, me and your dad get along very well. He's actually one of my best friends. I love that, man. I
SPEAKER_01:love that.
SPEAKER_00:But I didn't know how I was going to ask him. And one day, I picked up the phone. I told him, I'm going to marry your daughter. He was like,
SPEAKER_01:okay. That's how you asked
SPEAKER_00:him? I didn't say it like that, but I just want to let you know that I'm going to ask... I'm going to ask Ali to marry me. Is that okay?
SPEAKER_01:That's very different from what you just
SPEAKER_00:said. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was just trying to give you a... He was like, that's fine, son. Oh, my God. Yeah. No, it was such a beautiful experience. Poor guy. Poor guy. He was probably terrified.
SPEAKER_01:He did not get the same experience. No, he did not. He probably didn't give him a good vibe before. He didn't give him a good feel. He probably smelled.
SPEAKER_00:Probably. He
SPEAKER_01:probably smelled.
SPEAKER_00:You think he smelled? I
SPEAKER_01:don't know. He probably had some really ugly shoes.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01:You know people be looking at shoes.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. No, yeah, for sure. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:He probably didn't brush his teeth.
SPEAKER_00:I have no idea. What
SPEAKER_01:if the guy's like, you know, I did a background test on you before you came to the dinner today. Oh, Lord. And he's like, and I saw your credit report. And there's no way that I can let you keep dating my daughter.
SPEAKER_00:Damn.
SPEAKER_01:And the daughter's like, but daddy, no. I love him so much. I love him.
SPEAKER_00:I don't care if he has some 500 credits. That's tough. That's a hard one. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:There's a lot of credit repair programs out there. A
SPEAKER_00:lot. A lot.
SPEAKER_01:Just go tap into one
SPEAKER_00:of them. Tap in.
SPEAKER_01:Tap in. They work. Yeah. Absolutely. A lot of people have shared that they work and they've got testimonies.
SPEAKER_00:They do indeed. They do indeed. Bottom line, this guy thought that no one was going to be good enough his little girl and he was just not having it. What if
SPEAKER_01:she was actually like very, very young? What? What if this guy was like 18 and the girl... was like 15 or 16.
SPEAKER_00:That's disgusting.
SPEAKER_01:But there are people out there that's like, oh, but based on this state's law, with your permission, we can be together and this and that.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, that's probably why the ring was so little because the guy couldn't afford anything. Oh. Yeah. Like one of those rings from the store, like the doll store.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, my God. Oh, no. The dollar store. From Walmart. Give him some
SPEAKER_00:more credit. Okay, from Walmart. The ring was from Walmart, from the jewelry department at Walmart.
SPEAKER_01:Okay.
SPEAKER_00:And it was like a little, like, dot.
SPEAKER_01:And there's, you know what?
SPEAKER_00:Matter of fact, it didn't even have a diamond.
SPEAKER_01:Christian.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, it did not. And the dad was like, are you serious? You trying to marry my daughter? Nah, bro.
SPEAKER_01:Listen.
SPEAKER_00:Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01:Well, I prefer being from Walmart than being from Family Dollar, right?
SPEAKER_00:Right. I mean, no. I mean, look.
SPEAKER_01:And you know what? It's as long as they love each other and they respect each other, whatever he gives her. Listen, it didn't matter what you were going to give me. I was going to marry you.
SPEAKER_00:Yes. You were going to marry me. Yes. Yes. It didn't matter what I gave you. It didn't matter what I gave
SPEAKER_01:you. I'm very happy with what I have. It's
SPEAKER_00:very beautiful. It's very nice.
SPEAKER_01:Do we want to find out?
SPEAKER_00:I think it's time. I think it's time. What happened in this
SPEAKER_01:story?
SPEAKER_00:Okay, we have reached the part of the show where we have Allie read us a story. Allie, take it away.
SPEAKER_01:I need advice, everyone. So Ethan and I have known each other from high school. We were in the same graduating class, but not close. We met up for coffee about a year ago, and now we're engaged. I know it's a little quick, but it just felt right. We were very private, so we decided to visit our parents separately to tell them the news and have them meet our persons. It makes it easy since we're all from the same town. I met his family first before mine and guess what? They loved me and his dad is offering to pay for the entire wedding as a gift. I was so excited thinking this was going to be a sweet moment and I couldn't wait to share the good news with my parents. I set up a dinner at my parents for our engagement announcement to them. Everything was so, so good so far. My sister knew about Ethan but hasn't met him in person. My mom thought he was so handsome and respectful. My dad was okay, but he was more chill than I expected. We finally announced our engagement and everyone seemed excited. They were asking us tons of questions and we were giving as many deets as possible. Oh my goodness. Okay. Ethan looked a bit taken off by his game by that comment, but he smiled and said, he owns the pizza shop on the corner of Maple and State. At this point, my mom chimed in excitedly, oh, that's my favorite pizza place. Their pepperoni is to die for. But then my dad said to Ethan that the pizza's not too bad there, that he remembers a guy named Keith who used to work there and if he is still around. Ethan nodded, laughed. Yeah, that's my dad. And that's when the second bombshell drops. My dad leaned back in his chair, a smirk on his face, and says, Oh, interesting. I know Keith. We have a bit of history. I hear my dad's tone and I immediately want to puke. My dad goes, We can't stand each other.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, God.
SPEAKER_01:That guy robbed me blind back in college, stole money from my dorm room, and tried to ruin my time there. What? He was a real jerk-off. Ethan's face goes pale, and he glances at me like he's trying to connect the dots. My dad continues, So... Oh, my God. Oh, my God. I'm sitting there in complete shock, trying to process that my dad just revealed he slept with Ethan's mom as a payback for all the terrible things Keith did to him. The entire table went dead silent, and I can feel the tension in the room skyrocket. Ethan looked like he was going to pass out while my mom is wide eyed and speechless. Ethan didn't even mention that was his mom name. Somehow topic change and dinner ended earlier. Things were awkward after that. We went home and we were so in shock that we didn't speak to each other. It's the middle of the night and I can't sleep. I keep thinking, how are we supposed to move forward after this? We're freaking engaged. What do I even do?
SPEAKER_00:Call Dr. Phil. Oh, Because that's crazy. Yo,
SPEAKER_01:stop. Wait, yo, his dad has problems.
SPEAKER_00:Yo, this is worse.
SPEAKER_01:Both of their dads. Family issues. From the get. Damn. Oh my goodness. And it all started with that he was going to pay for the wedding.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_01:And then he's like, oh, well, what does your dad do that he's going to afford all of this? Like, that was a really, that was a real salty thing to say.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:And then it's worse that it's someone he can't stand. And then Dike having payback.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:So now this kid finds out my dad used to treat my mom like crap. Wow. And then this guy decided payback was to sleep with my mom.
SPEAKER_00:Lord.
SPEAKER_01:But even the way he says it's so cocky, like has her smelling like him before she went to
SPEAKER_00:him. These are the towns that people just grow up in. They've been there three generations, four generations in the same town. Everybody knows everybody's business. Just move away.
SPEAKER_01:Just go somewhere else. Start
SPEAKER_00:fresh. Wow. That's crazy, dude. That is crazy.
SPEAKER_01:I'm speechless. This would be horrible. Could I continue in that relationship knowing all of this information? It would be very hard.
SPEAKER_00:Well, I mean, yeah, I think to a degree it's going to be hard. But I mean, if the two, if the, you know, if they love each other a lot enough, you know... No, that makes... You don't want no pause. Because Christmas is going to be weird. Thanksgiving is going to be weird. That's what I'm saying. Birthday parties. How about when they have kids and they all have to come together? The grandpa, grandpa. Two grandpas. They're always
SPEAKER_01:fighting each other on who could give the best gift.
SPEAKER_00:Right, yeah. Clearly, they have... One has a little bit more money than the other.
SPEAKER_01:And then having his mom around? How is that going to be? Now her mom, she just... I don't know if she knew this before, but... She was shocked and wide-eyed. She either always knew and tried to keep that in the past, and now this is haunting her because now this woman that her man used to sleep with is going to be in the picture all the time. That's
SPEAKER_00:terrible.
SPEAKER_01:Or she just found out fresh.
SPEAKER_00:Moral of the story, yo, do your homework. Yo, do your homework.
SPEAKER_01:Seriously. Yeah. You meet somebody, just find out everything about them as early as you possibly
SPEAKER_00:can.
SPEAKER_01:As much information. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Because there's always going to be family drama.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Always. I mean,
SPEAKER_01:always. And sometimes that family drama doesn't even affect you directly. Exactly. It's indirect. But this.
SPEAKER_00:But this, it does.
SPEAKER_01:This would affect directly.
SPEAKER_00:This would affect directly. Because they don't get, the guys don't get along. Like, you know, that's terrible. Or maybe not. Maybe it's going to rekindle their friendship.
SPEAKER_01:Well, friendship, apparently he was never friends with him. That guy made his life a living hell in college.
SPEAKER_00:Damn. You know what? Maybe they just got to put some gloves on and get in the ring and just fight it out.
SPEAKER_01:Or like I said, just move away. Or
SPEAKER_00:move
SPEAKER_01:away. Just live in a different state. Have it be where you could visit, you could travel, and it's... You could travel two and a half hours to your mom's, two and a half hours to your dad's. It's just different.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Yeah, do that. That always works.
SPEAKER_01:It works. It
SPEAKER_00:works. Oh, man.
SPEAKER_01:But that's wild.
SPEAKER_00:That's crazy. And
SPEAKER_01:no, he can't even do that because they all live in the same town. So both parents, both families live in the same town.
UNKNOWN:Wow.
SPEAKER_01:But that would be easier because if they're going to do holidays separate, then they could just go for a little bit one day to one house and then a little bit one day to the other.
SPEAKER_00:But you know what? It's just toxic, you know? It is toxic. It's toxic. It's a lot of driving. It's up and down here, going there. It gets a little, you know, it's just toxic.
SPEAKER_01:It just shows how, yeah, it shows especially the dads how they are. Yeah. And you never know, maybe the daughter's thinking, my goodness, is he going to be like that with me? Because his dad was low-key, or not low-key, he was like that. And then maybe the guy is thinking differently. Damn, is my girl going to be like this too? Because I see how crazy the dad is. Because, you know, sometimes that creeps in into our personalities. I'm a little bit of my dad and my mom.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I know. That I know.
SPEAKER_01:But
SPEAKER_00:still, you know, it's just, you know, you have to, you got to do your research and you got to do your homework. Don't break that toxic. Because it stays in generations. Stick a generational thing. The generation occurs problems.
SPEAKER_01:I really wish that it was that he gave her a bad ring.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, me too. I
SPEAKER_01:feel really bad. Yeah. I feel really bad. Our advice to you, Miss Anonymous person that couldn't sleep at night because of this, which I completely understand. You know what? At this point, this is a conversation that you're going to have to have with your fiancé. you got to make up your life together. And if that means just not combining both families like that, then if you really do want to live this life together and really build this life, you're going to have to make that separation just a little bit, still be close with your families and stuff, but maybe having them be so connected at first might not be the best idea. And also just come up with a great, um, uh, seating plan for your wedding
SPEAKER_00:yeah no i i'm gonna give you my advice i would run i would like to solve the engagement like don't even you it's just no no no i don't care i don't care about that whole love nonsense because you don't let me know i do care hold on pause sorry i do care about the love but this hold on though but this situation is a little different like the dad was having Sex with the other dad's girl at the time. It's
SPEAKER_01:messy.
SPEAKER_00:It's just messy. So you're going to be unhappy forever. Not you and your partner. Not the daughter and the other kid. But
SPEAKER_01:you're going to have this just
SPEAKER_00:known anxiety. Every Christmas party, even a phone call. It's just annoying.
SPEAKER_01:But even the wedding itself.
SPEAKER_00:The wedding is going to be insane.
SPEAKER_01:I'll be honest. I had anxiety thinking about our wedding because my mom and my dad are divorced. So I was like, how are they going to be in the same room together? How are we going to do this? But you know what? They were so mature. It was great. God bless them. Everyone did such a fantastic job. I'm so happy. But it was a legit anxiety I've had since I was younger.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:You know?
SPEAKER_00:Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01:Because I knew I was going to get married to someone as handsome and as wonderful as you. Well, actually, a little less handsome. But no, no, no. That my imagination didn't allow me to see how beautiful my husband was going to be. How gorgeous. The sky cannot compare.
SPEAKER_00:I love you. But yeah, no, just pick your partner wisely because things can get a little crazy.
SPEAKER_01:Seriously. You know what I mean? Well, I feel bad because they seem really into each other, really in love, and they got engaged. They did it privately for a reason, though. Low-key, they knew their families were crazy. I
SPEAKER_00:don't think they knew. They found out.
SPEAKER_01:They had a feeling. Yeah, maybe. They had a feeling.
SPEAKER_00:Anyways, what do you rate the story?
SPEAKER_01:Oh, this is crazy.
SPEAKER_00:What do you rate the story?
SPEAKER_01:I don't want to keep rating these stories nines and tens.
SPEAKER_00:But this is good, though. This is good. This is really good, because this is filled with some drama, and we like it.
SPEAKER_01:It is. Okay. It's up there.
SPEAKER_00:It's up there.
SPEAKER_01:It's an 8.8. 8.8?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Okay, I'm just going to rate it a nine, because it was filled with drama, family issues, and it took us there.
SPEAKER_01:I would have given it a nine if the ring was bad. With all
SPEAKER_00:of that. Oh, yeah, I agree. That would have been bad.
SPEAKER_01:actually low-key there's drama in there that we didn't even know about because if this is the dad's reaction right about this imagine how they actually felt when they realized when they said that they were engaged it doesn't give all that detail but it says that the parents weren't so like imagine the drama going forward Like from the mom, especially like, how is it that I didn't know my baby was going to get married? You know?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Great. This is
SPEAKER_01:great. It's great. 8.8 for me.
SPEAKER_00:I'm at a nine.
SPEAKER_01:Love it.
SPEAKER_00:Love it.
SPEAKER_01:And that's a wrap for today's show. As always, we've got no idea where these stories are headed, but discovering them with you has been fun.
SPEAKER_00:Got a story you think we should be reviewing with some really strange titles? Send them over to whatstatitle.com where you can find our socials, bonus materials, and so much more.
SPEAKER_01:And who knows? We might read yours in the next episode. Until next time on So What's the Title?
UNKNOWN:So What's the Title? Thank you.
